mike, the old and new are different. in the old one vray will automatically put the fresnel map. in the new one its not. therefore they become like mirror. all you have to do is from the map type choose fresnel and there you go same as old one.

hi mike. thanks for visiting this blog. ok to answer your question, you have to know that the old one and this new one are different. in the old one, vray will automatically put the fresnel map once you added the reflection layer. With the new one its not. That is the reason why you have a perfect mirror. Therefore under the (m) of the reflection layer, you need to load fresnel map type. Then you will have the same as the old one.

Hi, Nomeradona. i’m Edo, from Indonesia. I hope you can help me with this problem (maybe you’ll think it’s a silly question, but please answer this).
I use sketchup and vray for sketchup for modelling and rendering. everytime i try to render an image using sketchup default sun (exterior rendering), the shadow is too sharp. is there a way i can make the shadow be a little softer? which setting in vray should i change in order to do that? In some tutorials, i read that i should change the ‘shadow radius’. but i can’t seem to find this option if i use default sun (i can only find if i use vray light –omni/ies/rectangle light). Should i use omni linear light to substitude sun instead?
I asked my friends, but they can’t give me satisfactory answer.
One more question: What’s the SU in the Vray SU stands for?

edo, adjust the size of the sun. the bigger the size the softer the shadow.

still here. i forgot to mention that i use Vray for sketchup 1.48.89. Actually i also use v. 1.00. Since it’s too old, i use the latest version, but still facing the same problem.
